Paintings, places and comics
Approaching art as a way of learning, Leslie works in a variety of mediums to manifest playful explorations of themes – from sculptures of fast food chains to paintings and comics about the metaphysics of place. His style has been described as conceptual popfolk earthwork. His current series of paintings explores Colorado landscapes - not just as exterior spectacles or consumed experiences, but as vibrant sites of inclusive, ongoing creation. For 10 years, Leslie ran the legendary frankenart mart, a participatory, always in progress, crudely hewn, conceptual art-in-practice store with tool wielding cats, hot dog days, and changing themes in San Francisco.
His next incarnation is in progress as he is pursuing a certificate in Interreligious Chaplaincy at the Graduate Theological Union with a focus on serving the trans community’s spiritual needs - with an artistic bent to be sure. Don’t be surprised if transtheological comics start flowing this summer.
